This is part of the Camping WAALSTRAND at the village of Gendt on the Waal river in The Netherlands, where I just returned from after a 2 weeks stay. The location is very nice directly on the water's edge. This river is in fact the highway from Rotterdam to Germany and beyond and may well be the busiest river in Europe.
Many vessel types passed by and I think that the tank barges are on no. 1. Many other barges had closed hatches, so the cargo was not visible. The ones with open hatches carried coal, sand, scrap iron or wood chips. Other important categories are the container ships and the tugs 'pushing' up to 6 enormous barges. Moreover I noticed passenger ships, private yachts, racing boats, a single coaster and even a historic German passenger stern paddler. Nationalities included The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France and Czech Republic.
Anyhow an interesting location for a holiday in The Netherlands on an excellent camp site.
