Photo by me, 1975, off south coast of Alaska. A 7 1/2 month trip that took us into the Bering Sea pack ice. It had a sad end ten years or so later in Union Bay, Seattle, much deteriorated and neglected.
303 feet overall. Had a diving tunnel that exited at the keel, unused because of the dangerous piston effect. An ocean lab near the stern, a computer room. A mixed crew of sailors, men and women, old drunks of sea dogs and university students and one-time sailors. Lots of bar time in remote ports. Male and female officers.
