Bought this card in a little shop yesterday (5th.Oct '19), printed inside it reads 'just arrived on the Isle of Wight aboard M.V. Brading' underneath it says M.V. Southsea, you tick a box next to the word M.V. 'Brading' or M.V. 'Southsea'.

They did a lot of 'recolouring' of postcards, post 1965 and the big livery change! Probably cheaper than professionally rephotographing the ships! Our own Falaise here at Newhaven had similar treatment.

Interesting to note the small but nevertheless noticeable differences between the two - portholes, liferafts, the gaff on the mainmast. All we need is for some kind soul to find an identical angle on Shanklin and then Photoshop them together for future reference. Oh, have I just volunteered myself?

Glad you liked the card meechingman, and glad you liked the differences to twins 'Brading' and 'Southsea', they also both had large square notice boards screwed to the railings towards the stern, on 'Southsea' the two boards read KEEP CLEAR OF PROPELLERS, on 'Brading' the two boards read KEEP OFF PROPELLERS. I expect you noticed on the card 'Southsea' had a white painted flagstaff on her stern, whilst the flagstaff on 'Brading' was varnished. i would think the twins both started out with varnished flagstaff's but at some point the flagstaff on 'Southsea' was painted.

I always laughed at the 'Keep Off Propellers' signs. As if anyone would try to climb on them! 'Keep clear..." made more sense.

And of course, the more closely you look at the card, the more fake you realise it is! The ships are in identical positions, the bow wave and wake are identical. Even the people standing on deck! So they clearly photographed just one ship and 'Pre-Photoshopped' it!

OK, so to do some proper comparisons we'll have to get some photos of all three. I'm on the case! Deja-vu, as I've done this before on the Newhaven ships.......

yes, before i bought this card on Saturday i could see it was 'pre photoshopped', the card is a reproduction of the original 1965 card, i guess they had some short of 'pre photoshop' tech even then, but all credit to the 'preshopper', he or she got the differences between 'Brading' and 'Southsea' spot on and i think that is why i liked the card so much that i bought it on Saturday. yes i agree with what you say about 'Keep off propellers', 'Keep clear.....' sounds better, perhaps 'Keep away from.....' may have been better than 'Keep off....'.
