It is the Hougomont, a four masted barque built by Scott & Co in 1897 for J. Hardie & Co, Glasgow. In 1924 she was bought by G. Erikson of Mariehamn, who as usual kept the ship's original name. Dismasted off Australia in 1932 and condemned. (You can see the ship is not a fully rigged three master by the fact that the hintermost square rigged mast is of the same size as the two before it. If it had been a fully rigged ship - whether three masted or four masted - the sails here would have been smaller, and crossed on a shorter mast.) This picture of Hougomont is used as the frontispiece to my 1935 edition of Basil Lubbock's "The Last of the Windjammers" Volume II . At the time that the book was written Hougomont was performing well in the grain races from Australia.
