Bristol Steam Navigation's 1967 locally built ECHO, which had recently been lengthened and fitted for the carriage of containers, is seen passing Portishead outbound from Avonmouth exactly fifty years ago today, on 6th November 1969.

Lovely photo Malcolm. She and sister vessel "Apollo" were great ships to sail on. Avonmouth to Dublin and return or Avonmouth to Cork and return. On some occasions Avonmouth to Dublin and Cork and return - a long trip! I sailed on both vessels in a relieving capacity while at Bristol Technical College, Ashley Down 'doing' Masters.
