Never knew American ships carried mixed crews in those days!

I know, ha coupla times "mixed crew" had to disembark with the pilot! Think you, Wally, just turned 21 then, youngest in class probably.

I was the youngest deckie in our class Bob, turning 21 in December 1966. Hank Ryan was the youngest engineer in our class, turning 21 the following January. You and Willie Mac, Gary Schmidt, and Mike Simenstad must have been the old hands and I know we looked really young to you guys. A few years of age when your young can mean a lot but hardly anything as we all age.
Tom Walsh, Craig Newton, Dennis Arnett, and myself were in Da Nang around the same time as you on the Mercer Victory. We spent 10 days anchored out in Da Nang before sailing down the coast to Vung Tau and another 10 days at anchor. Then over to Manila for another 10 days at anchor out of the War Zone, then back to Vung Tau for another 10 days at anchor before finally getting up to Saigon to discharge. Logistics were a mess early in the war.
My last trip to sea before coming ashore on the tugs at Red Stack was a trip to Vietnam on SeaLand's San Pedro. We went directly to the berth in Cam Ranh Bay, commenced discharge, and sailed upon completion.
