The Eridanus was commissioned by the Government Navy in March 1922 and used as a survey vessel. From militarization, the ship, under the command of Lieutenant Governor R. Troost, also served as a station ship from Tandjong Priok. From December 1941, Hr. Ms Eridanus and Hr. Ms Tydeman in turn watched over the northern entrance of Street Makassar, between Borneo and Celebes. After the fall of Makassar in mid-February 1942, the Tydeman and the Eridanus withdrew to Surabaya. Hr. Ms Eridanus on the Holland Pier in Tandjong Perak, near Surabaya, scuttled by her own crew because it was assumed that she could not escape with the slow and poorly armed ship. On 8 June 1943 the ship was lifted, repaired and rebuilt by the Japanese into a tugboat and salvage vessel under the name Enoshima Maru. The ship was only recovered on November 2, 1946 in Makassar and transferred to the Shipping Department. At the time of the sovereignty transfer, in 1949, the Eridanus functioned as a lodging ship in Tandjong Priok and was transferred to the Indonesian navy in that capacity.
