elswhere on this forum - there appears to be a black marking on the oriana as posted by clive h - here is a image of the qe 2 taken in capetown - with black marking alongside her hull - i deduced it was from the smoke from the tug boat - that would have brought her alongside and docked her

Some of the old Capetown and many other South African ports had coal burning tugs and they could really gush out the smoke ----not much fun for our passengers on the Union Castle mailships when the wind was blowing in the wrong direction!

********* Second time this morning SN would not accept a 'post' ~ this time of the named ship.

Passengers not reacting, positively, to the tannoy announcement 'Tubes will be blown @ hours', only had themselves to blame for the outcome.
