Wonderful lads, Bob Pounder to the right of me, a life long friend. Class of 1969 I'm the tall person in the middle back row. Chippy in the middle of the front row was a fabulous teacher.

Walked by there last year. Place is now housing and seems to be still under development. Port of Dover has changed a lot, the town less so!

Hi Biggles, My wife and I visited Dover for a reunion of the School in 2005. We couldn't go inside the building, but just looking at it through the fence took me back to 1969. I took to this school like a duck to water, cannot explain why, but it must have been due to Captain Vine and his officers who together created a very strict routine, and at the same time made the school a safe place to be. I was so fortunate to meet Captain Vine again at the dinner in 2005 in Dover and was astonished when he said " good to see you again Ward " I thought at the time no way he could remember me, how did he remember me from all those years ago. Then I realised this was Captain Vine, a very special person. RIP Sir.

When I got to the school in 69, the old hands took us the new ones aside to teach us the facts of life in the hard world of the merchant navy. Bit of a laugh since they had been there for only two months themselves. But we saw them as hard arsed sailors at the time. They told us that if we wanted to buy a lemonade in the local pub we had to tell the publican that PWSTS stood for Port William Sub Tracking Station based in Scotland, and not the Prince of Wales Sea Training School just down the road. Knowing that Dover publicans were not that gullible I didn't use this in Dover, I had to go down the road a little. Why isn't the world such fun anymore?
