Shipwreck of The Barque "Gunvor" Near Coverack

The barque "Gunvor" wrecked in fog at Black Head, south west of Coverack on 6th April 1912. Her crew lowered a ladder from the bowsprit and scrambled on to the rocks. "Gunvor" was on passage from Caleto Buena in Chile with a cargo of nitrates, bound for Falmouth for orders. Her home port was Frederickstadt, Norway.

"Gunvor" (1895; 1,943 grt) owned by G C Brovig, Farsund. Formerly French "General Mellinet" (1905) , steel barque. Wrecked within 10 nm of Falmouth.
