I think you will find Charlestown is St Austell, Cornwall.

Old Cunarder is correct, although Devon would like to take the glory for such a lovely place, we must admit that Charlestown is in Cornwall. The Phoenix is a regular caller.

Oh ****, and I live in Cornwall. Sorry lads. (I'm going to blame the satnav), but I gotta tell ya...... I live in North Cornwall....and the south coast side looks much more like Devon to me than Cornwall.

Was that pub featured in a movie about Germans sneaking into England,they had the pub located in France. Will have to find the name of the movie.

Belated reply to your query John, yes I believe it was used in 'The Eagle has Landed.' They do a lot filming in Charlestown because of its looks. Series like Poldark and Hornblower and such. When you look at it you can see why :-)

It was definitely "The Eagle has Landed." The MTB used in the film, and seen berthed in the harbour in the early part of the film, still exists. http://mtb102.com/
