I bought this old postcard today in Amsterdam. It shows a liner underway in a waterway. The location may be Ijmuiden. The bow of what is possibly a dredger called Kameleon is in the right foreground. On the back is written " Bremi, Zondag 10 October 1948.", although the photo seems to be earlier.

Looks like the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland liner 'Koningin der Nederlanden' of 1911.
Built for their Amsterdam-Southampton-Sumatra-Java service, she had a relatively short life, being broken up in 1932.
Built by the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw-Maatschappij, Amsterdam.
8,225GT, 455' x 55', twin screw, 4exp, 15 knots.
130 1st, 88 2nd and 38 3rd class passengers. (as built)
Sistership: 'Prinses Juliana'.

Thanks for that, both of you. It did look like Ijmuiden to me. I'm happy to have unearthed an old print like that, and can now research the ship further; it seems she was taken up by the USN as a troopship during WW1 !
Cheers, Graham.
