'Cliff Quay' was a regular visitor to the Power Station at Ipswich during the 1950's and she seems to have many photographs taken of her over the years, yet her running mate to and from the River Orwell during that time never seems to receive a mention - does anyone remember the 'Barford' ?

Hi Peter,
Unfortunately, I don't remember the Barford. I think she must have been before my time. Most of these traditional colliers were being retired by the time I started photographing ships in the early 1980s.

Which one of those sank outside the Thames or off Dover. I think Trotterdotpom was on one of those.........maybe the one that sank. Before the sinking of course! Is that right John?

Ah, Phil you have made my day with this one.... I used to watch this one coming up the Orwell and swinging off Cliff Quay, using the tide to allow her to turn to head down-river again (either before or after discharge, depending on the tide I guess). If I was watching her in 1958 (?) she did well to last into 1981.
