Hello Phil,
Excellent photo, did you take it from Tilbury Cargo Jetty?
Outward bound with a full deck cargo showing how busy we riggers had been in securing and lashing...I worked on her on two occasions during 1980 and the sailing dates were 11th August and 21st November from Tilbury..So one of those dates may apply to the photo...
Zealandic.... You were in LAGOS PALM at this time..For the August trip I noted - Captain Davidson - Chief Officer Cole - Chief Engineer Addinsel - Purser Debnam...
Was Jim Freckleton the Bosun during your time?
Regards Stan...

My first ship. Joined in Rotterdam, February 1965, with Captain Kopec. I know others do not agree, but had a lot of respect for him.

Hi Stan,

The photo was taken from Tilbury Landing Stage. That was my regular "shipspotting" haunt in those days and I would go there almost every weekend come sun, rain or snow!!

Cheers,
Phil

Proper ship, lots of character to her. Bet you boys had some good fun and hard work down in West Africa. this was a sister to Lobito palm you say - I spent near three months in Lobito in mid 90s and enjoyed it, was very run-down etc then, but one certainly got the impression of how paradise-like it use to be!
