9485 grt Nordic built as Chinese Prince by J.L Thompson of Sunderland.
Although owned by Prince Line she was on long term charter to Shaw Savill. - Both part of the Furness Group of Companies. Broken up at Hirao, Japan in 1964
Heading down river on the Clyde escorted by a Steel & Bennie steam tug that has unfortunately had its forepart cropped by my camera.

I sailed in her for the whole of 1963 as a deck cadet, She was on the Australia run, out through the Panama Canal back through Suez. Six month trips.
Twin screw, steam turbine, built during the war.

Rob,
Built in 1943 Nordic was powered by two 4 cylinder Doxford oil engines giving a speed of 13 knots.

Ordered before the war the ship was fitting out at her builders yard when she was seriously damaged by a bomb which scored a direct hit on her fwd deck.
