Yes she is ex Gardience, 424grt/1969 which Crescent sold in early 1986, along with her sister Faience (ISLAND TRAVELLER) to Tommy Allsworth, ABC Shipping Ltd, Queenborough. L&RT by now calling themselves, officially, Crescent Shipping and part of the Hays Group, remained as commercial managers.

Hi Gil,
The first ship of the class to be bought by Tom was the Halcience on May 5th 1985, later renamed 'Island Coaster'. We continued under Cresent management for a while but then went with GF Sully of Gt.Yarmouth. Company policy was for the ships to be painted the red colour but I wanted to retain the royal blue so in the end the 'Coaster' was the odd one out (in more ways than one, but thats another story) I left the 'Coaster' in Sept '89 and shortly after the company ceased trading. If anyone has a photo of the 'Coaster' preferably with the sail set I would love to see it.

Thanks for the background Ray. Looking at my notes for 1985 it would appear that although L&RT sold HALCIENCE to ABC Shipping they retained a share in her. Was this the case?
Gil.

No, only in the management fees did they retain an interest.
