Is this the West Breeze that was first through the Sueez Canal after Edens fiasco?
I was Mate with Eric Milroy in 71 and he told a story about being ordered to a French port being suspectecd of running arms to Algeria, can any of the Manners gentlemen enlighten this story please?
Thanks
John

John

When I joined West Breeze in Moji in 1961, Eric Milroy was Master and I'm sure the story is correct.
Manners had two "Wests" The first, built 1955 was sold on the stocks to Jardines & renamed Eastern Maid.
The second (as per my photo dates from 1958) so could possibly been the first through SC after the 56-57 closure.

Vic
Thanks your reply, it would be good if there was someone who was with Eric when they were escorted into Marseille I believe? To fill in all the details before its lost for ever.
Apparently there was a call from the vessel for help from the RN but help never came!
regards

John

John

I think probably Tommy fuller was Mate with Eric at the time of the incident.

A Google search will reveal parliamentary questions about the incident which occurred in international waters.
