I was involved with the supercrical steam turbine for Drakelow C power station when it was being erected in the shops of AEI Trafford Park, Manchester; looking down from the scaffolding was the two cylinder steam turbine for one of the RFA tankers; it would have been about 10,000 shp. This was in1964/65, at that time there were about 35000 men employed by AEI at Trafford Park, thanks to certain politicians it is now most probably a housing estate. The rotor for one of the turbine generators from RMS Queen Mary was inthe shops for reblading, I can remember seeing it in "K" isle.
