18,071 GRT great laker, built by the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company of Govan, for Hall Corporation of Canada. Two steam turbines.


G and J Weir of Glasgow were Manufacturers of some of the on-board auxiliary plant and systems. The photo was rescued from old Company archives that were being disposed of some 20 years ago. (Identity of the original photographer unknown - but thought to be Ralston)

I remember seeing some of these ships on the St Lawrence, and thinking, how could a mighty ship like this, disappear on the lakes. but unfortunately they did.

Did Hall Corp. (Montreal ?) have tankers operating in St Lawrence/Newfie etc.? Think I was in for a job there many moons ago but cannot remember why I didn't pursue it.!
