The large four-screw Cunard Steamship Company liner from the yard of John Brown and Company of Clydebank, seen here arriving at her New York berth. 31,550 GRT.


G and J Weir of Glasgow were Manufacturers of some of the on-board auxiliary plant and systems. The photo was rescued from old Company archives that were being disposed of some 20 years ago. (Identity of the original photographer unknown)

From comparing various photos of her initial arrivals, I'm guessing this is her 2nd visit to New York, which was in early October 1907 (she was there the first time during the middle of September, 1907.)

I have a framed panaramic photograph that shows the ship in exactly the same position, securing lines and all. The ship is centered in that image, but of course the sweeping views going left and right extend outward for quite a ways, the picture is 20 inches long. It's a very beautiful image with incrediably sharp detail for that time.
