Stan
Your photos and memories really need to be safeguarded for future generations.
Mods....is there something that SN can do to?

The fact that they're on here is a start, Barry.

Hi David,
I presume the wearing of the badge was to identify us, as MN ratings
had no uniform.
Many people did not know what the badge represented -but we wore
it with as much pride as a soldier had in wearing his unifofm.
Of the four in the photo - three of us were in ships lost in the war.
I was in Viking Star - sunk by U 130 -Captain and seven crew lost.
Ron was in tanker San Fabian sunk by U 511 - 26 crew killed.
Pat was in tanker Cheyenne - she was stopped by U 53 -the crew were
ordered into lifeboats and the ship was then sunk by gunfire and torpedo.
Sadly those three good pals have all crossed the bar......
Regards
Stan

Great photo of brave lads...now all sadly departed, including our late esteemed colleague Stan.

Without the bravery of the crews of the Merchant Navy, Britain would undoubtedly have been starved into surrender.

So, a Huge Thanks Very Much Lads, for your sacrifices.

RIP
