Yes, we in the USA feel compelled to send our heavy industry to the lowest bidders, no matter the long term costs! I've read that the USN is considering 'sourcing' the next generation of support ships from China, ironically. Anything to bust union jobs...

We have been losing jobs for years over here. We had the largest shipyard in the world, at one time (H&W). Now we can't even build a tug. They were even going to to let the FRENCH build the new carriers for us. As it stands they are being built like in bits like lego and assembled some where else.
Deliberately left out the word 'aircraft' as our Government has seen fit not to put aircraft on them.
They could have been built in a oner in the H&W building dock. In fact both could have been done side by side. The savings with those logistics would have paid for a few aircraft.
