Hi George.

It is in the right category and I think it shows her laid up at Devonport about 1974.

Brown Ranger - Naval Tanker - Built Govan 1941 - IMO:5053961
Gross Tonnage:3417 - Deadweight:3631 -LOA:111.5 Metres - Beam:14.3 Metres - Speed:13 Knots.

Towed from Devonport to Spanish Breakers at Gijon and broken up in 1975.

Regards
Keith

Keith,
Looks more like the Trots in Portsmouth Harbour with Portsdown in the background.
Good pic.

Indeed, though some published sources claim she was laid up in Devonport in November 74. Amendments seem to be called for.
I'm pretty sure she never had an IMO number.

I left her in November 1974 in Portsmouth after a six month trip to the Pacific in support of Sir Percivale.
(Periods of that voyage are still classified).
She was taken to the trot where this photo was taken and subsequently towed to Spain for breaking.

IMO (International Maritime Organisation) numbers only came into being during the last 20 years. She must have been ahead of her time !

I think we met you in mid Pacific in Resurgent, George?

George,
(Do you mean when you were detained on the high seas?)

Definitely not Devonport.
Portsmouth seems to be the place ships go to die these days. Usually a long drawn out affair, viz. Fearless & Intrepid.
Hope they send the T23s back to Guzz soon!

Thanks guys for putting me right, it looked a bit like Devonport.
I checked this out before mentioning it and they must have it wrong on the shipping sites.

Regards
Keith

would your trip with Sir Percival have had anything to do with a little trouble with the French and some very big bangs?

Unfortunately, being still under the restrictions of th OSA I am unable to discuss this.
But it was an interesting time, especially when we were captured by FS Commandant Bourdais
and subjected to close questioning and a champagne lunch
