HMS Suffolk at Portsmouth. Actually HMS Grafton, she was used by the BBC for the drama that nobody watched and got pulled after 1 episode. She had a metal plate over her name on the stern and her number was changed from F80 to F88.

Talking of warships on TV, I have a ship's crest of
'HMS Hero' which was in fact 'HMS Juno' which was being
used for the filming of 'Warship' (I think) back in the '70s.

As far as I know, there never was a 'HMS Hero' in the R.N.

I've seen a picture of HMS Phoebe also carrying the name Hero, and maybe HMS Dido but I'd need to dig out some old books to confirm that. They must have used a few ships during the series. A Hero crest is certainly an interesting bit of memorabilia though!

You are right about HMS Phoebe as one of the ships that played HMS Hero.

I've got an aerial shot somewhere of one of the 'Hero' frigates, clearly showing "D O" on the flight deck - Dido, presumably.

I have managed to scan my HMS Hero crest. Didn't turn out too bad!

Meechingman, that aerial shot sounds like the one I am thinking of, can't remember which book I saw it in though.
