Jim can you remember the rest of the Manfred Mann "Mighty Quinn" song that someone had re-written for "Chi", something to do with Iceland as I recollect. John

Come all without, come all within
You'll not see nothing like the Mighty "Chi".

On Leopard we were pulled off a Amsterdam run ashore to cover a frigate that had a bump and we were singing-

Far away Leopards glistening
Back at home the wives are listening
Will it be Amsterdam or get ready to ram
Sailing in a winter wonderland

Can't remember any more of it. Why did the trawlers alway decide to give us a couple of mail bags of fish just before supper, always appreciated but trying to get 200 odd meals on the counter with bloody big cod climbing out of the sink and sliding round the galley deck stresses one slightly.

I have no idea why but the Londonderry Squadron 'adopted' the Irish folk song "Fine Girl You Are" that was always sung with great gusto on runs ashore - indeed we got turfed out of a pub in Chatham on one occasion! Still have it on a CD and still like to sing along during my 'nostalgic moments'.

I think one of the best sing-a-longs I have ever heard was when in the 'Adamant' and we were down in Falmouth with 13 submarines alongside. The rafters of the Seven Stars were in great danger of giving way with dozens of (dare I say it) inebriated submarines belting out the 'Janner Song'.

"And we'll all go back to Oggie land,
To Oggie land to Oggie Land,
And we'll all go back to Oggie Land,
Where they don't know sugar from.........!

Neither obsolete Yorky just slightly worn out, as the American's found with the all missile Phantom in Vietnam and we found later to our cost with the all missile Frigate's in the Falkland's there is still the need for a gun whether it be a Gatling or engage four five.
