Ribblehead was a four cyl LB Doxford with main engine driven pumps and all steam auxiliaries also two three furnace scotch boilers. Winter NA beat the crap out of us and we had to work 6hrs on 6hrs off continuously to keep three men on a watch because all the auxies were running as the emerg gov on the ME would cut in and that is the one that has to be manually reset. Loading iron ore in Sept Isles in 16hrs then back to General Terminus in Glasgee to discharge in 24 then back out again, no chance to break watches. It was a crippling eight months in all with two emergency drydockings due to sprung plates and damage around the stern with the prop coming out etc. Loved every twisted minute of it... :-)

Ian,
As the old saying goes,"Time is a great healer"! I will bet that you'd be back like a flash though if they called you tomorrow!
Rgds.

I reckon I would go back, as long as I could take what I learned over the next 26 years at sea with me!!!!!!!
