Great painting of a tragic accident. I sailed on this ship, though not on this particular voyage. I Heard about this incident, though. The story was that the longshoremen dropped a container filled with some sort of flammable cargo down into the hold and it caught fire, and that at least one longshoreman was killed. I also heard that the Mate On Watch received a commendation for his quick action in getting the fire under control. The Argonaut was saved and remained in service for several more years until she was finally retired in 2005. In fact, the Argonaut actually ended up outlasting all the other ships of her class by several years.
