HMS Solebay - Destroyer - Pennant Number R70 - ID Number: 6122099 - Built Hebburn on Tyne 1945.
Gross Tonnage: 2408 - Deadweight: 3153 - LOA: 115 Metres - Beam: 12 Metres.

Decommissioned in 1962 and then used as a Harbour Training Vessel at Portsmouth.

Broken Up at Troon 1967.

Don't think the Sheffield went out on the trots, rather was alongside at Whale Island in the reserve ships moorings until her departure for scrap. At this time 1963, Sheffield was still a reserve unit.

Great picture, seem to remember those days like yesterday, Fareham Creek full of ships, sadly awaiting the torch. Think the two cruisers would be Gambia and Mauritius.

Yes hughie, I think you're correct, taking a closer look, nearest to camera I think is Bermuda with the enclosed bridge.

Ah well, my Dad was on the Gambia as well, so still has meaning for me.
Such a sad sight though, when we would probably struggle to muster enough vessels for a Reserve Fleet.
