I could have been on her when this photo was taken as she looks new and still has the derrick on the foremast, I joined her at the Builders Clelands on the Tyne in 1967 straight from sea school and her maiden voyage was to the Tees, Felixtowe, Cardiff and Pembroke Dock.
Regards, Steve.

I can remember my father (an ex Rowbotham Master) taking me on board Wheelsman when she was almost new. Pretty sure that it was at Shoreham. Fascinating visit for a 9 or 10 year old who was mad about the sea! Can't remember who the Master was at the time but the name Jan Rog rings a bell.

When we left Clelands the master was Capt William Crowhurst, a large dour man who wore his uniform whenever on the bridge, a strict man who used to chase me from the bridge if I was not on duty.

Capt. Crowhurst, who was senior master at the time, retired shortly afterwards, Jan Rog became master of the Wheelsman and remained there for many years. In the late 1960s I was Mate on the Wheelsman three times, with Capt. Rog, Tommy Williams and another younger Captain whose name escapes me, who, became a Humber Pilot. Bruce
