A sunday in June 1972. We were here for 14 days loading, then to Auckland for 11 days of the same. Sailed 6.7.72 for Tema, Ghana and London. Whatever happened to those halcyon days of weeks in port, and sundays off?

this photo brought back a few memories. I was on Antrim in June 1972 and we were berthed 3 ships down from you at South wharf, Melbourne then followed Icenic to Sydney and we were both berthed at Pyrmont. Went on board for a few ales with crew and invited guys over for Saturday night party on our ship. Remember Orcades in on last visit to Sydney. We went up coast to Newcastle, Brisbane and sailed from Townsville, paying off in Rotterdam.Oh and the party was great!!

Oh what memories! I sailed on Icenic as AB - May to October 1966. Sailed from Bristol Docks. Out to NZ, Aussie, and home via Durban & Cape Town. What a trip! The crew were great and those Kiwi girls were even better! Some of those "Maori Princess's" ringbolted with us around the coast. How could life get better? The girls would dhobi your clothes and tidy your cabin, then be ready for some midday nookie and (another) cabin party in the evening - 'triffic!!
The Captain was D.R. Richmond - who apparently lived up to his initials when stamping the naughty boys discharge books (I wasn't a good boy - just never got caught). In those days I sailed out with a good friend - John Sheppard. We imagined ourselves as "International Playboys". No girls were safe when we were around. However, one guy put us to shame. Homeward bound from Auckland we embarked a DBS, fresh from Mount Eden Prison, a bloke who'd jumped ship and been caught by the plod. His name was "Flash" Green. There were 7 (yes seven) luscious ladies there on the quayside to wave him goodbye and swear undying love. There wasn't a dry eye amongst them. That man could have pulled a Mother Superior. Great days ....
