My last trip to sea May 1979 before I swallowed the anchor. 2 weeks on 2 off with female AB's and Engineers. She was a trailing suction aggregate dredger with South Coast Shipping. They had the RMC logo on their funnels. Company still going I think with newish fleet??

SCS are still there, the Sand Serin is the regular visitor now. NIce shots of some of the Blue Star ships, too. I remember when they used to call in regularly. Elegant lines - until they went all box-shaped. Andy G

I think you will find the Sand Swan was a static dredger with pump being driven from main engine, therefore she had to anchor as the draghead would be facing forward and using the anchor cables to haul ahead or slack away to find better quality gravel

Thanks for that - the grey matter after 26 years! Yes you are right - a static dredger. I have a pic which I will publish of us at anchor off Brighton with the pipe down.
