My Grandpa. Capn’ Frederick George MaceMBE, born on 19/10/1898, He and his four brothers ran away from their Foster home when he was 14-years old and “Enlisted under Sail”. He served on the MV Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Goldfinch and Golden Eagle with General Steam and Navigation Co. No trace of any of the other brothers, presumably all killed in action. Lucky for me he survived both Wars!! He passed away in 1976 at Newport, IOW.

Love the photo Neil .... the telescope box and the binocular box must have been a standard accessory made by a woodworking company and the shipyards bought them. They were exactly the same as those in this photo as on all the ships I sailed on in BP Tankers.
