Grateful at Scarborough after a gas explosion. Has any one got a photo of her when she was intact.
Thanks.

As I heard it the gas bottles which were kept in a bottle on deck were changed but somebody forgot to turn the cooker off. The next morning the pier watchman went to put the kettle on for the crew coming aboard and struck a match. The gas had all night to leak into the galley and up she went.
At the time a salvage boat was in to try and salvage the Anmara and was tied up astern of the Grateful when she blew. The Gratefuls foredeck landed on the salvage boat and one of the crew later said it was the easiest salvage job he had ever done.
