Dating from 1954 this Irish Sea Trader arrived on the Tyne in 1967 at a time of prolonged decline for the owners Tyne Tees Steam Shipping Co. At 906 gr tons she was large for her trades to Rotterdam and occasionally Antwerp or Hamburg but proved to be the only profitable unit in what had once been a sizeable fleet. Management focus at the time was largely occupied in growing the successful road transport company John Foreman. The unmotivated and unloved shipping side with its Dickensian furniture bore all the hallmarks of a company not long for this world.

Thank for the info Terry. George Brown was an interesting small shipbuilder at Greenock originally known as Inverclyde Shipbuilding who went out of business 1963.
