My 1/48 scale model of the sand dredger Glen Helen built as the Coaster Mary Aiston in 1918 and converted to a suction dredger by the South Wales Sand & Gravel Co. in the 1920s.

She finished her days with the Tay Sand Co. in Dundee and was scrapped in 1965.

The model actually works and pumps sand!

Lovely job - well done. I do not suppose there is any way you could describe how you feel when you finish a piece of work like that ... and it works.

Glen Helen was built some 25 years ago - the hull plug was also used to build the Coaster 'Edith' which was used in the sand trade at Dundee too.

It took some experimentaton to get the sand pumping to work - I used a car windscreen washer pump! The model is also Radio Controlled.
