Here I am on tender duty, we are at anchor at one of the South Sea Islands, 30 years ago, I don't have as much hair now.

Thank you Frank for reminding me I first saw these ships THIRTY YEARS AGO !!!!!! The one which was in Lyttelton was the Royal Viking Sky ... I think she was really distinctive ..... she had a biffed up bow !!!

Hello Barnsey,
I visited New Zealand several times while I was onboard the Royal Viking Star. The ship that you saw in Lyttleton are you sure that it was the Royal Viking Sky, In my 3 years with Royal Viking Line (1973/6), I did not hear of the R V Sky getting damaged, however the R V Star had her bow damaged while I was onboard and we did visit New Zealand while she was damaged. In my gallery I have several photos of the ship with the damage, if you follow the link it will take you to one of the photos.

One of the Viking ships, (Royal Viking Sun) became the Prinsendam and she is still a beautiful ship. I sailed on her as a passenger a couple of years ago, and all the passengers I spoke to all agreed that she was the pride of the Holland America fleet. She carried around 800 passengers,or guests as they are now called. I plan to take another cruise on her.

John, I hope that you enjoy your cruise (I am sure that you will).

I find it amazing that all of the Royal Viking Line ships are still sailing.

Cheers Frank
