I like the composition of this picture
Doesn\'t matter where you look the buildings drag your eye back to the ships .And the building on the left gives it depth
Good picture make up .

The ship on the extreme right is the last remaining remnant of the former Union Steam Ship Co. - the ROTOITI, formerly UNION ROTOITI, built in Australia in 1977.

What is Sky City? Couldn't get that view from Ma Gleesons, the Snake Pit or even the roof of the Great Northern could you, Julian?

Think the Rotoiti was built in Whyalla (as solid as a brick shithouse). Last time I was there, there was grass growing on the slipway (the only green in town). Maybe it's gone now...?

Yes both Union Rotoiti and Union Rotorua were built in Whyalla back in 1977.
Kasper Wijsbeek came over to install the gas turbines in those vessels and ended up becoming their resident engineer (of Union Steamship) for many years, then working out of Melbourne.
I attended several drydockings of these vessels in Newcastle\'s floating drydock (Now Forgacs). But where are my photos??? Think I lost them all.

Sky City is New Zealand's tallest structure and at 300 metres or so you have an excellent view, I always stay in Sky City Hotel which gives excellent value for money. To be recommended.

Doxfordman, I actually missed Ma Gleesons by a whisker, but well remember the Snake Pit. What was I doing there? Just waiting for the other boys, Mum.
