Here is my very spacious cabin on the M/S Else Reith, for the size of the ship (2500tns) the cabins were large, it was the only time that I had a cabin with 2 portholes, the cabins were 2 berth though.

Tablecloth too. I'm impressed.

Was it common to have radiators in Cabins during these days? I've sailed on quite a few ships built in the 60s but ever come across this type of heating.

We had radiators in our cabins on the 1947-built Tourcoing. In the wintry Baltic ours sprung a serious leak, and in my first week at sea I got out of my bunk backwards and stepped right into a serious amount of water! It also smelled pretty bad when the heat was on... Regards, Stein.

Hello Mick,
The ship was built in Turku Finland (1961) for a Finnish company and during my 11 months onboard we were chartered to the Finnish company FA and every trip we were back to Finland and anybody who has been to Finland in the Winter knows that you need a good heating system which that was.
Like you I sailed on several ships built in the 1960's and I did not see that type of heating on any other ship.
Bye the way we also had a Sauna on the boatdeck, you must of heard about how the Finnish people like thier Sauna's.
Cheers Frank

Built for scandinavian trading, i can understand it now. Wonder if any British ships ever installed something similar at build?
