Incredible! Never seen anything like this! Looks like ants would have taken over a ship. Thanks for posting. A document. It is the Albanian ship VLORA, built in 1960 by Cantieri Riuniti, Ancona, home port Durres.

It is a quite well known picture actually! - it was a large emigration from the collapsed former communist dictatorship Albania and they took every opportunity to escape the country in which an expected civil war could break out like in neighbour Yugoslavia these horrible bloody years on the Balkans in the 1990s. A pyramide economic game collapsed in Albania and all money just ran out of the economy, a disaster for all the population. The merchant navy of Albania was not large and they had no passenger ships at all.

I hope they all had a bucket so they could take a dump in place rather than do it where they stand.
What a mess that must have been.

If I remember correctly there were some 5 000-7 000 people on board this ship - it was a typical picture for what was believed to happen for a long time from the Balkans - but I think there were not so many voyages Albanian style to come after this, actually. This ship and this cargo ship style was really a symbol of the Balkan disaster and the bloody civil war these very unpleasant years. Luckily the distance between Albania, Island of Corfu and southern Italy is quite short compared to the rest of the Adriatic.
