The text accompanying this photograph by Lothar-Gunther Buchheim reads:-
"Our five gun barrels at rest. One Mosquito has been shot down, and a second has been winged-but the other boat (U.981) is gone, sunk by a direct hit. The sun is not yet up. Our gun crew awaits the next wave of airborne Tommies."

Yes, Barnsey, I have his book;it was sent to me years ago (about 1978) by the publisher with a book-plate inscribed:- "This book is sent to you with compliments of the season at the request of Mr Werner Muller."

If you have not already seen my references to him in these pages, he was the 2nd watch keeping officer of the U.190 and became a P.O.W. in Newfoundland in April 1945. I first met him, still a P.O.W., when he was transferred to a camp not far from my family home in Newport. The association with him still continues. I've met him on two occasions since those unhappy days. Hugh.
