Here is the promised colour photo of the HAPAG Diesel-Electric Ship PATRIA built at Deutsche Werft of Hamburg for HAPAG's lines to South America - mostly planned, as I recall it, for the Hamburg-Buenos Aires-Valparaiso line, but broken by the European war outbreak in September 1939. She was for long the world's largest diesel-electric powered vessel. Her longest carreer were as the USSR Morflot's ROSSIJA on the first Odessa-Haifa-Marseille line, later basically on the Odessa-Crimea-Caucasus line for domestic cruises and from 1962 sometimes on the line from Odessa via Gibraltar Strait to La Habana on Cuba, which had recently (January 1959) been liberated from a corrupt classical military Pentagon supported puppet regime, to be replaced by another authoritarian system... She was finally withdrawn in 1985 and then renamed ANIVA, as one cannot scrap the ROSSIA -with that name! The ROSSIJA successfully participated, with quite many other Morflot passenger liners in the Operation Anadyr in summer and autumn 1962 to ship crews, military cargo and officers to defend the new Cuba from an American invasion or coup, an operation which, in the final end, strategically saved the Cuban Republic till this day.

So rare to see an original colour photo of this attractive ship and one that is so sharp and clear as well. Thanks NAUCLER for posting. Derek

NAUCLER

This is SHIPSNOSTALGIA you don't need to ask if 'it's wished' as in posting more colour photos of this magnificent little liner just add all you have as I can assure you we won't get tired of them especially if they are anything like this particular photo so YES more please NAUCLER.
