It is believed that this Trinity House Pilot Vessel was,at one time, owned by a maharajah. She came into service shortly after the end of WW2 when the pilots had complained about the unsuitability of the ex. Scottish Fishing Vessel being used, as a tender, to transport pilots the ten miles down from Dover to the Dungeness cruising cutter.
She came to the end of that service a few years before the Dungeness station was abandoned, and pilots began boarding ships by launch from Folkestone in 1970.
She had been eminently suited to getting down to Dungeness in any weather and the pilots-of whom I was one- were sorry to see her go.
As far as I know she is still in use of some sort or another and the last photograph I saw of her was taken in Malta.

What a beautiful shot Hugh - shows her seakeeeping qualities there, very stable appearance.
Found some links to photos of her at :- http://www.absship.co.uk/html/1980_SHIP.HTML

Shows some of her in dock and sunk at Roath, Cardiff.
Raised and restored to ownership of a Maltese businessman/politician by the name of Cecil Pace.
The vessels present whereabouts & status is unknown.
