1894. Launched in Glasgow for Furmess Withy as HALIFAX CITY, the ship was in line to Canada for six years. Single screw, 12 kn, 2,150 grt. Passengers: about 100.
1900. "La Veloce - Genoa" acquired and renamed her ETRURIA. In line to South and Central America for many years.
1917 Feb. As armed merchant ship, in convoy in the Messina Channel, she avoided a torpedo from a German submarine and in return hurt it with a little gun.
1930. Sold for breaking-up.

I think you have the wrong Etruria, pichchio23. The La Veloce ship was single funnel, two mast and my records indicate that she was cargo only, but that could be wrong.
Barney\'s postcard is almost certainly features Cunard\'s Etruria delivered by John Elder & Co, Fairfield in 1885. Two funnels, three masts. She was 8,120 tons, 550 first class, 800 second class as built. Held both the east and west the Blue Ribands until the arrival of City of Paris. Served with Cunard until she was scrapped in 1909.

Yes,Fred. Probably you are right. In any case La Veloce ETRURIA was cargo but principally emigrants transport. It may be interesting to know from Barney the date of the postcard (before or after 1909) if any.

Thanks for the information Fred and Picchio23. Sorry I can't answer that, probably a card I swopped with other collectors at school. All my postcards are over 50 year old. Most as new as when I got them. around two hundred. I had notes on most of the ships. Sadley I threw them in the bin when I moved house.
Kids not interested. Kept picture's. Had computer two months, found this great site. As usual, keep things for years, get rid ,then need them. Plenty old pic's to come. Barney.
