Martand sank in the Hooglhi after, allegedly, 'sitting' on a sunken anchor left by some other ship, (God knows when), on a falling tide at Diamond Harbour. We were passing her on Makrana a month or so, after she'd sunk, and I took this photo of her funnel shortly after it was swallowed up forever. Salaams Phil

Good picture - better than the one I took from Magdapur in mid 1964.
For an excellent account of the stranding by Stevetorkington then 3/M on Martand type in Martand in the Brocklebank Form

Jim! Thanks for the 'gen'! I've just read the account of the sinking and, at long last, I too have read "the definitive account" (as they say!). I had heard, vaguely, that she had 'sat' on an anchor off another ship. To find she had actually 'sat' on her own anchor was quite a revelation!! Salaams, Phil
