In 1966 joined her in South Shields for my first voyage as 3rd Officer after passing my 2nd Mates Ticket.
The master was Captain Harold Charnley (later Commodore).
The oldest ship in the fleet but at least she was fast and got the voyage over with quickly.
In May 67 in Durban on my 21st birthday on her I heard on the BBC Worldservice my beloved Tottenham beating Chelsea 2-1 in the Cup Final. Not sure we have beaten Chelsea since......... Ah nostalgia !

I sailed on her as J.O.S in 1953 to Cape Town and back. Does anybody remember the Alhambra Hotel with its palms and lovely girls?
