Far aft it would seem. Looks to me like Heineken on the table, would the Germans drink Dutch beer? Maybe an expert will put me right... Regards, Stein.

Stein,
the cabins were aft as you say, if I remember correctly as a deckboy your cabin was furtherest aft, the beer on the table is German it is Holsten beer (Hamburg), the Rum was an old German brand "Balle" I wonder if they still make it, maybe some of our members know.

Been to Africa?

This is how the Holsten Logo looks today; have they changed it? LINK It's that dark band across the middle of the oval, and the comparatively long name. I no longer think it's Heineken though, they've got a star above the band. (A matter of some importance this?)

Yes, deckboy: furthest aft, you get a real nice shake when the propeller lifts out of the water in high seas. Regards, Stein.

Stein,
The bottles have changed a bit since those days, I think that it says on the label "Holsten-Export" if you look above the name you can just see the black horse which is Holsten's trade mark.

In those days the ships that were registered in Hamburg tended to have Hosten beer (when available) onboard and the ships registered in Bremen tended to have Becks beer, (so I was told).

Yes in those cabins aft you got the shaking and the propeller noise, good memories hey.

Kris,
We never got to Africa on that ship, we trading mainly in Northern Europe we were on charter to the Finnish company FA so every trip was back to Finland loading paper/wood to anywhere in Europe. That African picture probably came with one of the crew who joined from another company ship.
