Collision between Averdijk of Holland America Line and Alexandra K. Panama flag. This happenned on Noordzee Kanaal between Amsterdam and Ijmuiden on March 4th 1964.

Have no idea who made pictures.

not being well versed with the finer points of maritime engineering, the most striking point of this photo is that the fires are still burning, or was this to keep the pumps working. It just fascinates me, that with such devastation to the hull she is still steaming!

This ship was one on the Scandinavian Type standard design completed by William Gray in 1943 as Empire Valour. In 1948 she became Eskgarth and in 1951 Uskmouth. She was renamed Alexandra K in 1963. Given the extent of the damage you would think an elderly ship such as this would be broken up but she was repaired and in 1968 became Aristiois II, finally being broken up at Piraeus in 1971.
