2nd Submarine Sqn

A mixed bag of boats here alongside the depot ship HMS ADAMANT in Devonport. Outboard is the T class TRUNCHEON (S53), then O boat ONSLAUGHT (S14), Porpoise class CACHALOT (S06) with I believe either the A class AMPHION (?9) or ARTEMIS (?9) next to ADAMANT. The bows of the other ship look like HMS TY

A good photo Thomas, In 1969 the Cachelot and HMS Forth with one or two other ships visited Bangkok and stayed for a few days, I was invited onboard the Cachelot for a visit and she remains the only Submarine that I have been onboard.....

Cheers Frank

Being a former ‘bunting ******’ Frank I couldn’t serve on submarines but, like you, I only got to visit one once. In 1973 I was part of a torpedo trials team for the Mk 24 Tigerfish wire guided torpedo working on RMAS Whitehead. We conducted trials in Raasay sound twixt the Isle of Skye and mainland Scotland. We had an Oberon class boat doing trials with us at one point ( cannot remember which one) but I got to have a look around. Glad I couldn’t serve on them and they deserve the extra pay !!
