A.147 G A Rae

A.147 G A Rae

This is a transfer from a slide taken, I think, in the early 1980s (I was a student, I wasn't paying attention) in Aberdeen.

I'm 80% sure that this is the MAFF Torry Laboratory ( NOT the same as the Marine Laboratory that all the fishermen call the Torry lab tho lol ) vessel G A Reay A147 as the vessel on the right is the FRV Explorer that you have a photo of from last year Arry.

They were laid up beside each other when MAFF sold the G A Reay and the Marine Lab were in the process of disposing of the Explorer ( the Explorer finsihed in 1983 I think ).

Davie,
There is a picture of G A Reay in www.photoship.co.uk. From the configuration of the gantries I would guess this is her.......TD

Yes TD i'll agree there it is the G A Reay A147. The freezer trawler that did a lot of the research work for the last of the Humber freezer trawlers to get their freezing plant working better and able to freeze more fish per day.

You've promted my memory, I've another photo, from around the same era, of the Upper Basin with A.147 G A Rae. I'll post it in a moment or two. Classic example of not knowing what you have, till someone makes you think.
