A TRANQUIL PLACE

A TRANQUIL PLACE

Just to prove that life on a tanker was not all oil refineries and industrial sites here is British Kestrel in September 1968 tucked away up a fjord near Bergen, Norway discharging cargo.

A good photo and a good reminder of what it was all about; thanks for posting and as it would be a shame to see it swamped by recent uploadings, it is nice to bring it back into circulation. Not a lot of fish in Bergen on that day ;)

That looks a lovely spot and marginally better than Kharg Island. I went somewhere really attractive when I was on Moss Tankers Luxor but I can't quite pull it from the one remaining grey cell at the moment. Give me a bit more time. The clean oil ships had a much better chance of going somewhere decent than the big boys

Paul, Mark & Tony,
nice location - think I preferred Kharg though.... ;)
(i) no herrings in view .. for a while ..(/i)

We used to discharge at a little BP jetty opposite Oslo city, across the fjord, the hamlet was called Nessodtangen and reminds me of your photo. A beautifully serene area in winter.

Once we gate crashed a wedding party there ( well, we were invited , sort of ) and I recall having a tad too much to drink. A habit which I have nurtured over the years...

Regards,
Rick
